Before we even get into it, lets go over the question at hand. The most frequently asked question of every beginner in Affiliate Marketing, “Can you make money with Affiliate Marketing?”
Might seem like an easy question to answer right? Well it isn’t…
It’s not like theirs a set salary when it comes to this business model, you’re not guaranteed an hourly wage or annual raises, you can make anywhere from $0 – $100,000’s a year, or even beyond! There’s no set answer.
What you make with Affiliate Marketing is entirely up to you. The strategy you implement, and the action you take, all play a factor in your success or ultimate failure with this business.
This being why I can not stand when I see people say:
“You can make $50 – $100 a day guaranteed just follow these steps!”
And than at the bottom there’s a small disclaimer claiming these results aren’t guaranteed, and you’re results depend on the action you take.
Why not just tell you this in the first place and skip the hype? So here’s my disclaimer:
There’s no such thing as easy money, or lightly earned success, this will take time, and work. I don’t have some magic formula that will get you rich over night. What I can promise is that your results are the reflection of your actions taken, simple as that.
So if you’re serious about learning what it takes to make some money with Affiliate Marketing, lets get into it…

What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate Marketing is type of online based marketing where affiliates (us) are paid to promote/sale a companies product or service.
We get these links through things called affiliate programs, these are programs set up by companies or individual sellers, so people like us can promote their product or service for a percentage of the customer’s purchasing price.
They give us a link or banner we put it in our content/website -> Reader clicks the link and purchases the product or service -> We get paid. Pretty simple right?
If only it was that easy but there is a lot of behind the scenes work that does go into doing this.
So to spare you the misery of reading an additional 1,000 words in this article here’s a Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing I wrote specifically catering to newbies looking to find their grounding with this business model.
How The Process Works
Essentially Affiliate Marketing can be broken up into 4 steps:
- Choosing an interest.
- Building a website
- Getting visitors (Traffic)
- Earning revenue $$$
1. Choosing An Interest
A fairly simple task, pick an interest! Anything! What are you passionate about? Is it a hobby? Or just something you enjoy doing?
Here’s a few examples to help get you going.
- Video Games
- Weight Lifting
- Home design
And the list goes on, don’t get held up on this for too long, the internet is huge and their is an audience for just about anything.
2. Building A Website
Now for those of you a little unfamiliar with site creation this might seem a little intimidating, but with great programs like WordPress, they make it easier than ever to get one up and running.
When creating your site you’re going to need two things:
- A domain
- A hosting platform
You’re domain should resemble your niche, like how mine is brokecollegesolutions.com, I help people, primarily students find ways to make additional income online.
The domain and my content within my site share a resemblance, so keep this in mind when selecting yours.
-Note: I personally use SiteRubix on my affiliate platform when bouncing around new site ideas, they’re free and a good way to bring an idea to life.
3. Getting Traffic To Your Website
This is going to be the lifeline of your business, what determines $100,000’s a year or $0.
These are the people who are reading your content and browsing your site that you are ultimately trying to convert into a sale.
Now there are several different ways of doing this, some of the most common being:
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization)– People searching and finding you in Google.
- PPC (Pay Per Click)– You paying for every time someone clicks and visits your site.
- Social Media– Getting traffic from Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
- YouTube– Posting videos using YouTube to refer traffic to your site.
I could sit here all day explaining the in’s and out’s of these, but I would be here for days trying to cover it all.
Since you’re still here you’re apparently really serious about generating some income online, or possibly making a living from home. So here’s a great program I recommend to get you knowledgeable.
4. Earning Revenue
Once you have these steps down you’ll begin signing up for affiliate programs relative to your niche.
What I mean by this is if your site is a sporting site you might want to sign up with a program that promotes sports equipment, or video games will be gaming equipment, and so on.
Here’s a great guide on a couple affiliate programs I recommend for beginners starting out. They’re easy to use and are some of the most highly sot out programs out there.
Most of these programs will offer ready made links with a specialized code you implement into your site that keep track of your sales and conversions with their programs.
It’s kind of like an online ID, but for affiliates. When the reader clicks that link with the code and makes a purchase through your link, you get credited for the sale, resulting in a commission.
But not all revenue you can earn is made from selling products, some programs offer additional forms of earning revenue:
- Pay Per Click- Being one of the more common alternative methods. The seller pays you a commission (usually relatively small) for every click a reader makes on their banner or link.
- Pay Per Lead- This is when the seller pays you for every time you refer a reader over to their site and the reader fills out a contact form.
